Today I’m sharing my 10 reasons to Love Decorating.
Decorating came into my life a few years ago, and my passion for it has grown so much in those years.
There’s something so fun about envisioning the way a space could look, getting creative and working with what you have to bring that vision to life.
Here Are 10 Reasons To Love Decorating
- Finding Your Style. A really fun aspect of decorating is finding your personal style.
When we were first married, I didn’t really decorate, never mind having a decor style.
I remember we had painted our future bedroom together and we did a red accent wall. About a year later I was regretting the color, it was just too much.
They say you either love or hate reds for interiors and while I don’t want to use the word “hate,” it’s definitely not my style.
Now I know what I love: Neutrals with pops of turquoise and rustic elements added in.
2. Arranging.
This one is so fun! I’m definitely one of those people who will have certain pieces of decor in a different spot each time you come over.
Not so much furniture, but definitely other times like mirrors, signs, vases etc.
One of the reasons I love doing this is because it’s so much fun to see what works in a space and to give it a new look.
Trying to make it look cohesive and natural is a process I enjoy so much!
3. The Hunt.
I don’t know about you, but I love to find things cheap or secondhand. It’s a great way to add character to your home, whether the pieces are almost new or vintage.
I find a lot of my items at thrifts stores and garage sales, and I absolutely love it. It’s not to go “buy junk,” it’s trying to find that piece that will align with my vision for a space on a budget.
Sometimes those items are completely unexpected finds, but often they’re also things I’ve had on my list (like a coffee table, vase or even rocking chair). They all make me love decorating even more!

4. DIY.
Sometimes you’re faced with a dilemma: You would love to buy a huge farmhouse sign for a particular spot, but by the time you pay for shipping you’ll be working your month away just to cover it.
So the next best thing is making it happen yourself, even if it will look different.
This doesn’t mean you have to make everything from scratch. Sometimes it’s as simple as spray painting a vase and writing your favorite quotes on it with a permanent sharpie.
There’s so much beauty in doing things yourself. You gain confidence, experience and awesome decor pieces for your home.

5. Endless Inspiration.
This is honestly one of my favorite parts of the interior decorating world: seeing everyone’s amazing and beautiful homes and drawing inspiration from it.
I used to compare my home to those on Pinterest and Instagram far too much, but it’s so unhealthy to do that.
It’s better to focus on what you have and work with what you have instead of being unappreciative.
I look at the interior spaces on these platforms as an online magazine, a curation of beautifully styled homes. And I love it. It makes me happy seeing other bloggers and influencers sharing their passion, talent and creativity with the world.
When someone loves what they do, it shines through beyond the screen and I admire that. It makes me want to do my best work and not only be inspired, but contribute to the inspiration that is out there.
6. Mix and Match.
One of the reasons to love decorating is sometimes found in trial and error. Your home doesn’t need to look like so-and-so’s, it just needs to be what you love.
Sometimes that may mean you won’t love a piece of decor that you brought home, and that’s okay (Keep those receipts, friends)!
This is how you learn and find what works for you. Not everything in your home needs to match, that would be boring right? I love to mix up vintage and modern elements to give a space visual interest.
7. Flowers and Plants.
I love flowers on any occasion, but bringing them into a room instantly transforms the space. It feels fresh and airy and beautiful.
Some plants actually have oxidizing power that will purify the air in your home.
So not only does it look good, it feels good too. If you have a flower garden then summer is a great time to bring some fresh cut flowers into your home – for free!
8. Organization.
You may be wondering what this has to do with decorating. But it’s quite simple:
In order for your home decor to wow you and make a statement, you need to have a clean, organized space.
Not perfect, unrealistic-clean, but presentable. If the corner shelf is beautifully styled but there are shoes and lots of other items beside or in front of it, it won’t be very attractive.
One of the best tips to hide these types of things is to use baskets or chests. They’re pretty and functional and a big part of why I love decorating these busy spaces.
9. A Creative Outlet
Decorating is definitely a creative outlet for me. I love being able to browse for inspiration and use my imagination to bring my own vision for a space to life.
Most often the end product is different from the starting point, but that’s part of the creative process.
There’s nothing more satisfying that seeing a finished space come to life after months of research and planning.
10. A Sense of Pride.
I love being able to make our home our own. From the furniture, to rugs, to signs and family photos, there’s something so rewarding and fun about putting your own personal touch to everything.
When you love decorating, it’s one of the most essential ways we allow our personality to shine through and to make our home look cozy and inviting.
Of course I’m not suggesting we can’t love our homes if we don’t decorate, but I absolutely love it and have a sense of pride about it, in a good way.
It’s wonderful to not only be inspired by what others are doing, but inspire others in their own journey of making their home their own as well.
Your Home is a Reflection of Yourself
One of my goals is always to do what I love, regardless of what the trend may be. It’s not always the most put-together place (real life), but at the end of the day, I love this place and I’m proud that we get to call it our own.
Decorating is a big piece of of that. I enjoy the process so much!
