Do you feel like there’s no way you’re ever going to do all the things you’d like to get done? Catch up on your “to-do” list? Or are just burned out altogether?
“But there’s not enough time,” you’re thinking to yourself.
It’s not about having enough time. It’s about making the time.

We all only have a certain amount of hours in our day. It’s up to us to figure out how we are going to utilize it.
I think it’s so important to take time for yourself. It rejuvenates the mind and helps you get back at it.
10 Relaxing Things To Do On Your Own Time
Read a book
I’ve always loved books. I love how the stories make the imagination come alive and you just get immersed in this other world. It’s relaxing and you often learn something you didn’t know beforehand. And it feels good to feel smart, right?!
Take a bath
Need I say more? Baths are so fun and refreshing! You can even bring a glass of wine with you as you’re relaxing your muscles. It’s a great way to tune out and just focus on yourself.
Go for a bike ride
Bike rides are great – you get to exercise and enjoy nature simultaneously! My husband and I will often go for rides in the evening. It’s a great way to spend time together or alone.
Visit a new coffee shop
You may be thinking, why would I go to a coffee shop by myself? Well, there’s some really cute shops out there that you might be missing out on!
Watch a favorite movie
I love this one! I know some people don’t like watching movies by themselves, but I digress. I’ve done it since my early teens and I still enjoy a favorite movie or show every now and then. It allows for reminiscing of younger years and just enjoying where you’re at in life.
Work on a project
Get your creative juices flowing with a simple project. There’s an endless variety to choose from!
- Make a banner, do some coloring, scrapbooking or any other crafts that interest you.
- Spray paint a project for a fun before and after.
- Browse Pinterest, it’s a nice relaxing way to find inspiration.
You’ll get so lost in the work and making it look good, you won’t even notice you’re by yourself.
Take a nap
Naps are good for your health. That’s not a fact, it’s just something I believe. Because I looove naps. I could have a nap every day but then I’d never get anything done. Once in a while, you need that beauty sleep to get rejuvenated and reenergized. You’ll feel so much better and happier, like a kid!
Write in a journal
Get your thoughts out on paper. It can be:
- a grocery list
- to do list
- goal list
- travel bucket list
- life bucket list
It will help free your mind since it’s written down rather than having it all jumping around in your head. When you write, you get to know yourself too.
At the beginning of this year I started a Thankful Challenge.
Our pastor gave us a weekly challenge after one of his messages, which was to write down 10 things a day you’re thankful for.
I decided to continue and now it’s amazing how Being Thankful Can Change Your Life.
Visit a library
When is the last time you browsed through the shelves at a public library? I take my time going through the shelves and enjoying the feel of being in a library.
I’ve always loved libraries – it probably has something to do with Beauty and the Beast, seeing all those books in that massive castle when Beast surprises Belle in that classic moment we all remember.
You don’t have to come out with a load of books you feel you might not finish. It’s just about getting away from all the noise and tuning in to some quiet time.
Go explore a greenhouse
Commit to taking time to do things on your own
By marking a slot into your calendar once a week or at least every other week. Find a day that isn’t filled with other activities and make yourself a personal appointment.
If every day is filled, then you will need to rework some areas. It might seem silly to “make an appointment with yourself,” but it’s so much more than that. It’s a way to get your mind renewed, to just enjoy getting out of your everyday routine and be present in the moment with whatever you’re doing.
