Welcome to my blog, friends!
I’m Gladys, and I’m so excited you’re here.
I’m a trucker’s wife from Canada and I love Jesus, all things home decor, encouraging others, working on projects and pretty things. (Among other fun facts, shared further below).
I never would have thought I would have my own blog one day, but I’m so happy God lead me down this path and that I’ve been able to pursue this dream.
Why am I so passionate about all things home?
Because home is where everything begins.
It’s sharing our vulnerabilities, struggles and victories. It’s our stories, our feelings and our spaces.
Its where you get to be 100 percent yourself and create a cozy, inviting atmosphere for you and your family.
Believe it or not, the way we look at our home and how much we enjoy it has great influence on our daily life.
That’s why it’s my mission to help and encourage women who want to thrive and enjoy their role in the home and making it a beautiful, welcoming place.
Here are some things you can expect from me:
- Decorating tips and tricks
- Budget-friendly decor recommendations
- Simple DIY projects
- Faith and life encouragement
Whether you just need some simple decor ideas or you’d like to stop comparing your home to those on social media, I would love to share my tips, ideas and inspiration with you here at Our Happily Ever Home.
More About Me
Introvert or Extrovert? Introvert and proud of it! While I love to go out too, it’s more so with just a few people. Home is where I love to hang out and recharge.
Any siblings? I have four, two brothers and two sisters. I’m the oldest – and the shortest.
Favorite Scripture? “But I trust in you, Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hands.” Psalm 31:14-15
Hobbies besides decorating? Reading, writing, taking photos, watching movies, shopping – whether the mall, thrift stores or garage sales, I enjoy it all.
- Case in point: many of the items below are from garage sales or thrift stores: the farm girl, galvanized pots, the plant rack and the large lantern. (The DIY hydrangea wreath was made using faux florals from our wedding).
Random Fact? I didn’t get to have a “house hunting experience” that most couples do when getting married. My husband bought our house when we were still dating. Of course we discussed it together and I trusted his decisions. He did good in my opinion. 😉
Favorite movies? High School Musical, A Walk To Remember, Sweet Home Alabama, Harry Potter, Captain America, I’ll Be Home For Christmas, Snowed Inn Christmas, December Bride, Ice Sculpture Christmas… (I loooove Christmas movies).
Favorite Stores? Home Sense, Chapters, Winners, IKEA, H&M, Hobby Lobby, and local thrift stores, antique shops and vendors. Sadly we don’t have Hobby Lobby, Target or Home Goods where I live. The nearest ones are three hours way. *insert crying emoji*
Something I’m very proud of? I can happily say that the top destination on my bucket list is checked off. I had always wanted to go to Egypt (since I was 11) and in April of 2013 I was able to not only go there but also to Israel. It was literally THE TRIP OF A LIFETIME.
- This was me and three friends from the trip sitting at the top of Mount Sinai. Yes, I’m serious. If you ever want to hear the story, shoot me an email. 🙂
Any phobias? I can’t swim (neither can my husband), and I have a fear of being in open waters. If I can’t feel the bottom, I ain’t going in!
Travel bucket list? Magnolia, Disney World, Ireland, Caribbean Islands, Turks and Caicos, Greece, Europe…I’m a big dreamer obviously!
Favorite TV shows? Friends, Fixer Upper, When Calls the Heart, Boy Meets World, iCarly (don’t judge me :P), and Friday Night Lights – a show which portrayed marriage in a beautiful, realistic and healthy way. It’s also the only show I’ve ever binge-watched in one month-long sitting.
Quirks? I love sleep, hate being cold and suffer from self-diagnosed Misophonia. I tend to second guess myself a lot and it can take me a long time to make decisions.
Favorite part of being married? Having a best friend who’s always there for you, someone to do life with who is also your biggest fan. My husband has been very supportive of my dreams and I’m so thankful for that. Teamwork makes the dream work!
In sharing my passions with you, my hope is that it will encourage you to also pursue your own ideas and dreams, to go after what matters to you.
