I’m the type of person that loves to reflect, and I thought it would be fun to take a look back at the top moments of 2018 for Our Happily Ever Home.
- Bedroom Feature Wall.
This was a really fun project that my husband and I were super excited about.
It was also my first time “designing” a space and I absolutely love the way it came together.
We added the wall, changed out the light fixtures and curtains, and the entire room felt so much brighter.
No more red accent wall!

2. Photoshoot for Stone Cottage Home.
This was my second time being a brand rep for a company and it was super exciting.
It’s almost surreal when you get a taste of what the future might hold. To represent a company that sells bedding across various retailers such as Target, Kohls, Overstock and more, it was a dream come true!
I loved the bedding and I was so thankful my wonderful sister took pictures of me (and for me) to make this experience possible.

3. Kitchen cabinets.
This project had been on my list for several years, but I never got enough courage to just go for it.
Then this year, I decided to do a ton of research, pooled my favorite tutorials together, got the supplies, took two weeks off of work and got down to it.
It was a lot of work, but it didn’t take me the full two weeks and it was SO worth it.
Our entire home had a lot of wood, and this was a nice way to break that up and give the ceiling a chance to shine against the white cabinets.
I’ll be writing tutorials on the entire process in the future, so stay tuned for that.
4. Two Big Features on Instagram.
I know this might seem trivial to some, but this was a huge deal to me!
I started my Instagram account in January of 2017 and it’s been a rollercoaster, so to have this happen was confirmation to stay the course.
It’s never about doing it for others, to try to impress, but this community is all about sharing each other’s work and supporting one another and I love that I got to be on the receiving end here.
Through many ups and downs, meeting people, almost wanting to throw in the towel sometimes, I can’t tell you how much it means when others share your content.
Especially well known and respected brands that know what’s up.
Like, BHG Real Estate?! Someone pinch me!

While it’s not Better Homes and Gardens directly, it’s a branch off and I can’t tell you how excited I was when they asked to share my photo.
Granted, both of these images include this feature wall, but rather than start doubting or wondering, I reminded myself that I had a hand in designing this space and that others are loving it.
The dream is to work with more brands in the future and it’s amazing when you get an inkling of that, to know that others appreciate your craft and what you have to offer.
Never give up on what you love friends. Sometimes it might seem like you’re talking to yourself or that very few get it, but it’s so worth the adventure.
5. Getting the Rug.
I say “the rug” because it was over a year of searching until I finally found this beauty that no other rug could compare to after I saw it.
As trendy and beautiful as the vintage rugs are, this one beat them all. The feelings it invoked, the distressed and subtle patterns, it really would look amazing in any space.
We had our previous rug for five years (two 5×7’s), and it was time to change it and invest in a large one appropriate for the space.
I’d seen one on Rugs USA but I was hesitant due to the shipping us Canadians sometimes deal with, so eventually I found a very similar one on Wayfair Canada and bit the bullet.
Other than our hutch, this is the biggest investment piece I’ve committed to and I’m so glad I did.
What were some of your favorite projects or things you experienced this past year? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
