Today I’m sharing how I transformed this 4-tier plant stand with items already on hand.
You know what’s fun? Going to garage sales and finding items you’ve had on the list for awhile.
I’ve loved going to garage sales since my early teens. Every summer my hometown would have an annual summer festival weekend with parades, concerts and mini donut trucks – yum! While most people were lining up to watch the parade, I was sitting there daydreaming about what I might find at the garage sales afterward.
The thrill of finding something that I’d been looking for was the best.
Was this plant stand on my list?
No it wasn’t, but when I saw it I just couldn’t pass it up. I saw passed the not-so-pretty orange flowers and knew that with some paint I could transform it and give it new life.
Supplies needed:
- 1-inch paint brush
- Small paint roller
- Paint tray
- Primer
- Rustoleum exterior white paint
My 4-tier Plant Stand Transformation Process:
- Clean the stand with water and a rag.
- Once it was dry, I started priming with 3-in-1-primer.
- The next day, I applied the first coat of white paint. I applied a total of 3 coats of paint.
This was after the first coat of paint. You can still see the flowers if you look closely enough, hence two more coats of paint. I was so excited to see the transformation happening with every new stroke of paint. Don’t you just love the power of paint?! I sure do.
Once the plant stand was painted and dried, I got to the other fun part: adding actual plants!
I had accumulated an array of small pots from my trips to different greenhouses, so I decided to make use of them rather than spending more money on extra pots.
Initially I wasn’t sure what to plant in them, but on one last trip to a greenhouse behind my street, my greenhouse lady friend gave me an amazing deal on impatiens. I hauled them home and had enough for these pots as well.
Don’t you just love how flowers make everything better and prettier? I had debated about whether I would use the plant stand inside or outside, but I knew it would look great on our gazebo. We didn’t have a lot of things out there yet anyway so this was the perfect addition to the space.
Do you love garage sale finds as much as I do? I’d love to know, so leave me a comment below friends!
